Westwood Early Childhood Council
The Westwood Early Childhood Council is a resource for parents and professionals providing referral consultation, newsletter, parent-child activities, parent programs and tuitions subsidies.
Funded by the Massachusetts Dept of Early Education and Care Community Partnerships Program for Children Grant, in place to address five main goals for early childhood education:
- Affordability and Accessibility
- Collaboration among Agencies
- Comprehensive Network of Services
- High Quality Accredited Programs
- Community Outreach
The Westwood Early Childhood Council also receives additional funding from the Westwood Young Women’s Club and the Westwood Educational Foundation to promote early literacy, child/parent social activities and parental support
The Westwood Early Childhood Council has open meetings monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month (excluding July and August) from 7-9 p.m. at Room A108 at the Westwood High School
The Council publishes an Early Childhood Resource Directory for Westwood Residents every 2 years that details the following information:
- Programs for Children
- Early Childcare and Education
- Licensed Family Care Providers
- School Age Childcare
- Recreation/Gym Programs
- Library Programs
- Services for Families
- Resource Referral
- Parent Education/Support
- Health Services
- Nutrition
- Early Intervention/Special Education
- Regional Resources
- Museums and Points of Interest
In addition to the directory, the Early Childhood Council and Office has a variety of materials, services and programs for families.
Sample Programs:
Parent/Child Social Hours: The Westwood Early Childhood Council and the Westwood Public Library sponsor Social Hours for parents or caregivers and their young children.These programs are designed to allow adults and children to learn more about the community and to meet other families. The Social Hours are held at the library.
Toddler Playgroups: In collaboration with Early Intervention Program of JF&CS. Children 12 months to 36 months and their families hands-on learning environment bringing developmental activities to you and your child.Westwood Children’s Librarians will offer a Toddler Story Time
Story Activity Times: Celebrate reading with a special storytime for 3 & 4 year olds.Co-sponsored by Clapboardtree Nursery School.
Saturday Active Gym Play: Join in the Parent/Child Active Fun for 3 and 4 year olds with Mr. Pat Foley, Westwood Physical Education Teacher. Funding provided by the Westwood Young Women’s Club.
Special Programs: barn babies, bi-lingual family support, adoption support, parent discussions and speaker presentations.
Quality Support for Programs: professional development, accreditation support, parent resource and referral consultations.
