| SEPAC GENERAL MEETING OCTOBER 20, 2009 |

The Westwood Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) held a brief meeting followed by a seminar on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 7-9pm in the Professional Development Room at the High School, 220 Nahatan St., Westwood. Basic Rights in Special Education Seminar was presented by Jennifer Maggiacomo, SEPAC Chairperson. Families were provided with an introduction to their rights and the district’s responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Massachusetts Special Education Law. Topics included determining eligibility, the IEP process, monitoring effective progress, and how to be effective partners with the school district. The laws concerning 504 plans were also addressed.
